Caldeira

The Caldeira corresponds to the crater of the largest volcano on Faial Island, with about 400 m deep and 2 km in diameter. Since it shelters rare endemic flora species, it is classified as a Nature Reserve. Descending into the Caldeira is not allowed, but there is a trail that goes around the crater, which provides particularly breathtaking landscapes.
