Monte da Guia is an ancient submarine volcano that later fused with the island of Faial. It is classified as a Protected Landscape Area for its geological formation, its endemic fauna and flora.
It has an exceptional viewpoint from the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Guia, patron saint of the fishermen and sailors, overviewing Caldeira do Inferno, also known as Caldeirinhas, which shelters several protected species of marine fauna, as well as over the Porto Pim Bay and Horta.
